A Grace-full Life...A Beautiful Sunset...My Grandma

"I don't know what your destiny will be, but one thing I know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who will have sought and found how to serve." -Albert Schweitzer

This morning, heaven gained a good one.  My Grandma was too beautiful to describe, too caring to explain, and too amazing to try to tell with words.
She was perfectly named “Janet”, which means “God is gracious,” and anyone who came into contact with her learned by her love for others that God is good, kind, and gracious.
She lived her life grace-full and constantly serving others.  I had the privilege of being her only granddaughter, and she spoiled me, not with things that get dusty and age with time, but with love, tenderness, compassionate, and always a listening ear.  Whenever we arrived at their home, she had the apple pie warm from the oven, double chocolate cookies ready for my tastebuds to have a feast, and her warm arms would wrap around me.  I always knew I was safe and could be myself.
I observed her love and respect for my grandpa, modeling a marriage of 63 years that was stronger than anything in this world.  I watched her serve in Brazil, and I strive everyday to have the perspective she always had as to what truly matters in this world.  Her days were spent giving, serving, and loving.  She glowed.
And now, although it breaks my heart to not have her here, I know she’s singing with the angels, making her jello for everyone to taste, and reuniting with those she brought to Jesus through the years.  I know there are many in heaven because of her, and I’m sure they were waiting at the pearly gates as she took her first breath in eternity.
So, we remember with joy and celebration and with gratitude.   As the sun sets upon the days allotted for her on this earth, I look out, and I see the most vibrant, glorious sunset one can see.  One that reminds me that our days are numbered, and to live each one fully, beautifully, grace-fully, just like she did.
